D4D成立于2009年夏天，是第一个由工业设计师、可用性专家、交互设计师、视觉设计师、架构师和设计相关学生组成的志愿者社区，并致力于提高在中国的弱势群体的生活质量。这样一个社区不仅仅有利于设计师圈子，也能够促进社会责任感的建立、可持续和绿色设计的发展，而且已经得到了众多企业的大力支持。
